Currency

Currency The currency of Estonia is the Kroon (EEK). In order to see how that compares to your own local currency, you can visit a site such as XE Currency Site

While traveling in Estonia, I found that my credit card worked just fine at the grocery stores and other stores. My debit card from my local bank also worked just fine. The best thing to do before traveling to another country like Estonia, is to call your bank or credit card company to tell them where you will be. Usually they will ask you for your travel dates so that they can make sure your transactions are accepted while there. I was also able to make use of the ATM machines while in the country as well. I just made sure I new the currency exchange rate at the time, so I had a fairly good idea of how much cash I was taking from my bank account, or how much I was charging to my credit card so I wasn't surprised by my statements upon returning home.

ATM machines are located even in small villages where you might find a grocery store. The personal checks from your bank account will be of no use to you in Estonia. They are not very common in Estonia. Employees in Estonia are more likely to receive their pay by direct deposit than by check. Purchase made in local stores are made either by cash or card. Another note of interest, is that for most people in Estonia, tax returns are very simple and done online. In most cases, it is simply a matter of looking things over and submitting.
