Transportation

Travel Estonia By Bicycle

As anywhere, there are many different modes of transportation in Estonia For example, bicycles are a very common mode of transportation, especially in the smaller villages outside the towns where there is limited or no bus service. When the weather is nice and it is pretty outside, you will see more people using their bicycles. Not only seen in small villages, but sometimes on the main highways to larger cities. Tourists, especially from Finland can be seen on bicycle with saddlebags traveling the countryside of Estonia.

By Taxi

The day we left Estonia to come to the U.S., we requested a cab from one of the more than 35 cab companies in Estonia We were transported from a friends place in Tallin to the Airport. The cab driver was courteous and helpful, as we had an extra stop to make along the way.And he spoke English, which can be helpful if you are english speaking and need to get from place to place.

Travel Estonia by Ferry

There are 5 ferry routes in the country of Estonia, linking different destinations from the mainland to the different islands, and from island to island. The ferry ride from Kuivastu on Muhu to Virtsu on the mainland is an enjoyable ride of about 30 minutes and is a main commuter passage for those traveling from the islands off the west coast of Estonia. While traveling by ferry, you will find food and drink available in the topmost part of the ferry where you can sit at a table and enjoy the view.

travel Estonia by Bus

You can get from place to place by bus. The schedule changes with the seasons. If traveling from one of the larger cities like Tallin on a friday afternoon, beware that many are commuting to the islands for the weekend and space can be limited if you arrive late.

Travel Estonia by Car or Limousine Rental You can rent a limo in Estonia. Car rentals are available.

The saying in Estonia is, that if you can survive Tallinn's traffic, then you can survive anywhere in Europe. People can at times not be so polite, maneuvering into lane changes while going through blind curves.

Winter Road Conditions

In the winter, Tallin streets are plowed after snow, but not as often in the smaller villages. Local people maintain these roads to help people get to the bus stations. A sand/Salt mix is used on the roads, so cars can be quite dirty during these months.

Estonia has plenty of wildlife including Elk and Deer. Signs along the road indicate areas where you should proceed with extra caution for animals.
